On Monday, May 22, 2017 a crowd of over 21 thousand gather to see musical artist, Ariana Grande perform, unprepared for what was going to occur that night. Just as the show was ending and Grande’s signature pink balloons were being dropped from the rafters, a large blast reverberated through the Manchester Arena.

“I feel so sorry for the concert attendees and for Ariana Grande. I could only imagine what they are going through,” said senior Jasmine Moore. Other Woodhaven High School students shared the same feelings.

“I first found out about the attack from social media. I was scrolling on Instagram and I kept seeing the Manchester flag on my timeline. I was so confused so I did a quick search on Google and found out exactly what happened. Ariana Grande was trending in the news and on Twitter and Instagram. My heart goes out to everyone involved in this incident,” said senior Kaleb Smith.

This explosion killed at least 22 people and wounded around 60. Since Grande’s fan base is filled with mostly adolescents, many of the victims were teenagers or younger.

Singer, songwriter, and actress Jennifer Hudson takes to social media application Instagram to share her condolences.

“Thinking about my @arianagrande and the U.K. in this moment! Praying for you all!! Lord help,” said Hudson. Other artists, including Harry Styles, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake have shared their memories of playing at the UK venue, expressing concern for Grande and her fans.

Ms. Grande, who was unharmed, wrote on Twitter that she was “broken” after the attack. “From the bottom of my heart, i am so so sorry. i don’t have words,” said Grande. Her message was reposted over a thousand times.

After this tragic experience, Grande announced that she is holding off on the rest of her tour dates. The bombing has also prompted other venues and performers around the world to adjust their touring plans.

“A world where kids and teens can’t even enjoy a fun event such as a concert without worrying about being injured, or worst killed, is a world that I do not want to live in,” said Moore.
